Digital printing or DTG (direct to garment) is a relatively new technology designed to make highly-detailed prints. Much like a regular office printer, this machine injects ink directly into the garment instead of placing it on top. This is how it achieves those rich colours. We chose this technique for print on demand for mainly two reasons: First, unlike screen printing, DTG doesn't have a long setup which makes profitable one-off prints possible. And second, due to its efficient use of energy and water-based inks, digital printing is sustainable. Sign Up Now - It’s Free!

Direct to garment printing (DTG) and T-shirt fulfillment belong together. Is a revolutionary printing technique that uses the same inkjet technology from regular printers but applies it to T-shirts and other garments. This technology is known for its rich colours which are achieved by injecting directly into the fabric. (This is very different from other processes like screen printing and vinyl which just lay the design on top). Another great benefit of DTG is that it's got almost no colour limitations. So designers can explore their full potential without worrying about physical limitations. Another point worth noting is that DTG doesn't need a lot of time for setup. With DTG is enough to just do a quick preparation of the garment and turn on the printer. To top it all off, it's sustainable and a perfect fit to print on demand organic clothing.
For T-shirt dropshipping the first thing you need to know about DTG is that while it is true that it doesn't need a lot of setup, it also doesn't mean that it doesn't require any setup. Every time we want to print with DTG we must prep the garment first. This means spraying the fabric with a special kind of liquid that will make it easier for the ink to adhere to the material. While short, this step is necessary to have the best result possible. Another issue we must address is the limitless colour options. Yes, it is true that DTG can print more hues than any other printing technique but it does have its limits. If you're interested, get in touch and one of our printing experts will guide you through the details of digital printing. Another thing you must know about digital printing is that it will look its best if you use 100% cotton clothes. Since the ink is water-based, it will always look its best on a highly absorbent material like cotton. Print on demand in Europe with Printsome.
If you're still not convinced, here are some advantages and disadvantages of digital printing. Disadvantages: If not taken proper care of, DTG prints can fade over time. This is great to achieve a 'vintage' look but not so good if you wish to keep your T-shirt looking nice, new and crisp. Digital printing can be slow. While it is true that it makes it possible to make one-off prints, it can also take a few good minutes to produce just one garment. Compare this to screen printing which can be done with one swift movement. Digital printing also limits quite a bit the type of garments you can use. DTG looks is best when it is printed onto cotton. The more cotton, the better which is why most T-shirts used for this are 100% cotton.
